  • Potential Hazardous Operations Over 7WA7 South of Rainier National Park

Attention to pilots operating along the south side of Mount Rainier National Park, specifically those flying low along the Nisqually River between Ashford and Longmire.  Kautz Creek Helibase (7WA7) supports National Park Service aviation operations for Mount Rainier National Park. The site is routinely used for search and rescue missions, short-haul operations, external load, and emergency response activities. The site is in frequent use throughout the year and is critical to aviation operations in the park. Park personnel have observed multiple recurring low level overflights by aircraft transiting the area, including several incidents in which low level aircraft have passed through or in dangerously close proximity to active helicopter operations, creating potential hazards and suspended operations. While the park has continues to implement several mitigation measures, this notice hopes to bring attention to the possible hazard in this area.  Kautz Creek Helibase is not visually charted on the sectional chart, and may not show on apps like ForeFlight without manually searching (identifier 7AW7). The pad is located along the high north bank of the Nisqually River, between Ashford (7 NM W) and Longmire (2 NM NE), at an altitude of 2312 MSL.  Please use caution when operating in this area, watch for helicopter operations, and be sure to maintain your minimum safe altitudes. If you're operating in this area, find the heliport on your planning software by searching for 7AW7 or Kautz Creek Helibase. • America Sail 250 Flight Advisory

FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION HEADQUARTERS WASHINGTON, DC   AMERICA SAIL 250 FLIGHT ADVISORY   At the request of the Department of the Navy, the Federal Aviation Administration will establish airspace restrictions over the New York City area, to be in place from July 1 through July 9, 2026. NOTAMs will be issued depicting 99.7 “Special Security Instruction” Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs) to be implemented as follows:   Under the authority granted by 49 U.S.C., the FAA may apply restrictions within airspace under its jurisdiction. Any person who knowingly and willingly violates these restrictions may be subject to certain criminal and/or civil penalties. Pilots who violate security TFRs or procedures may be intercepted, detained and interviewed by Law Enforcement/Security Personnel. They may also be subject to the following actions:   1. The FAA may take administrative action, including imposing civil penalties and the suspension or revocation of airmen certificates;   2. The United States Government may pursue criminal charges, including charges under Title 49 of the United States Code, Section 46307;   3. The United States Government may use deadly force against the airborne aircraft, if it is determined that the aircraft poses an imminent security threat.   UAS ACTIVITY IN THE VICINITY OF DOWNTOWN NEW YORK: Check NOTAMs for exact dates and times. Within an area over the Hudson River extending from the Verrazano Bridge to the George Washington Bridge, from the surface to 2,000ft AGL, unless otherwise authorized, all UAS operations are prohibited July 1, 0800 EDT until July 9, 1200 EDT.   MANNED AIRCRAFT RESTRICTIONS: Check NOTAMs for exact dates and times. On July 4, 2026, from 0730-1200 EDT, a series of restrictions varying in altitude and lateral dimensions will prohibit all aircraft flight operations from approximately 30NM north of the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge south to within the vicinity of Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey except as follows:   Military aircraft directly supporting America 250 International Aerial Review Approved Law Enforcement and Air Ambulance flights, squawking an assign discrete beacon code and in communication with air traffic control, as coordinated IN EFFECT FOR THE ENTIRE TFR: For operations within this TFR, all emergency/life-saving flights (medical/law enforcement/firefighting) must coordinate with the FAA at the New York Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) prior to their departure at 516-683-2984 to avoid potential intercept or delays.   UAS ACTIVITY UAS operators who do not comply with applicable airspace restrictions are warned that pursuant to 10 U.S.C. section 130(i), and 6 U.S.C. section 124(n), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Department of Justice (DOJ), and the Department of Defense (DOD) may take security action that results in the interference, disruption, seizure, damaging, or destruction of unmanned aircraft deemed to pose a credible safety or security threat to protected personnel, facilities, or assets.   UAS operations are authorized within the defined SSI airspace if in compliance with the requirements listed below:   1) Prior to TFR activation, the UAS flight operation has been pre-approved by the FAA System Operations Support Center (SOSC) at 202-267-8276 based on criteria established by the sponsoring federal agency in coordination with the FAA;   2) Requests for pre-approved UAS flight operations can expect disposition of their request in a minimum of 24 hours.   3) If the pre-approved UAS flight operation is conducted in direct support of an active national defense, homeland security, law enforcement, firefighting, search and rescue, or disaster response mission, and prior notification has been provided to the designated facility contact; or   4) If the pre-approved UAS flight operation is conducted in direct support of a significant and urgent governmental interest and is approved by the FAA SOSC in advance of entering the defined SSI airspace; and   5) The pre-approved UAS flight operation complies with all other applicable federal aviation regulations.   Warning The FAA recommends that all aircraft operators check NOTAMs OFTEN for mandatory airspace restrictions prior to operations within this region. Specific instructions and restrictions are available at http://tfr.faa.gov once the NOTAM has been issued.

  • Avoid Wildfire Smoke by 15 Miles Below 5,000 Feet

IF YOU SEE WILDFIRE SMOKE, FLY AWAY! Horizontal Buffer: Avoid wildfire smoke by at least 15 miles. Vertical Buffer: Completely avoid the airspace from the surface to 5,000 ft. AGL. The Risk: Flying in the vicinity of wildfires interferes with firefighting operations and places human lives at immediate risk! Why This Airspace is Extremely Dangerous High-Density Traffic: You should expect multiple emergency helicopters and airplanes flying in different patterns and at varying altitudes directly above a wildfire. Active Firefighting Orbits: These aircraft will be circling the fire area, including the column of smoke, actively engaged in critical suppression operations. Severely Hindered Pilot Visibility: Aerial firefighting pilots face limited ability to actively scan for your aircraft or drone due to their tight orbits, intense concentration on target acquisition, rugged terrain, and thick smoke. Rapid Convergence: Response times for firefighting aircraft are exceptionally rapid. Emergency aircraft may be traveling toward a smoke column from various directions in a very short period of time. Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs) & Detection Do Not Rely Solely on TFRs: Not all aerial firefighting operations have an active Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) over the operating area when emergency response begins. Rapid Implementation: TFRs can and will be enacted rapidly for the safety of firefighting aircraft. Always use visual smoke as your immediate cue to clear the area, even if your tablet or GPS does not show a restricted zone yet. Automated Detection: Local authorities are monitoring situations instantly; for example, California utilizes more than 1,080 wildfire cameras across the state to automatically identify fires. Proper Reporting & Radio Etiquette Aircraft On-Scene: Do not report wildfires that already have firefighting aircraft on-scene. Unreported Fires: To report a wildfire that you believe has not been reported yet, immediately contact the servicing tower, approach control, or flight service station. Special Note for Drone (UAS) Operators If you see wildfire smoke, fly away or land your drone immediately. Unless you are an authorized part of the emergency response, flying a drone in the vicinity of a wildfire interferes with critical suppression operations and places the lives of low-flying firefighting crews at severe risk.
